Fast-food options wherever you look. Startlingly expansive portion sizes. Given these and other aspects of our current dietary culture, it’s no surprise that we’re consuming more calories than ever before. And with this increase in caloric intake—as well as the lack of physical activity to counterbalance it—come problems such as high blood pressure and unwanted weight gain.

But all it takes to avoid these problems, and to potentially improve your diet, is to understand calories: what they are, how our bodies use them, and how to manage them in the foods we eat and the activities we perform. Calorie balance is an essential component of a healthy body and mind, and an awareness of how many calories you eat and how many you burn off in a given day is easy to learn. More importantly, the benefits of mastering your caloric intake are a much more effective—and lasting—nutritional tool than any of the fad diets you may find advertized on television and in magazines.

In It’s All about the Calories!, you learn

  • what factors play roles in establishing an individual’s total calorie needs;
  • how to determine your own basal metabolic rate and calorie requirements; and
  • some sensible ways to incorporate calorie-burning activities into your life.

Watch this free video lecture to explore the science behind calories and get expert advice on lifelong strategies for managing weight.
